Getting your Website Found

Did you know...Just because you have a website on the internet, doesn’t mean you can be found?

Search engines, such as Google are not able to find sites in a search unless they have specifically chosen phrases that they relate to and regard as relevant to the search.  Trying to understand what people search for can help you to be more relevant to your target market. Search engines are becoming more sophisticated, using a wide variety of criteria to make sure that the sites that they recommend first are precisely what their customers are looking for.

One of the measures that Google and the other search engines use to determine how worthwhile your site is and how many non-reciprocal links to your site exist (UK search marketing company Impact Media Ltd). This makes back linking also a vital element to being found and ultimately having a high ranking.

Guidelines to remember:

  • Give visitors the information they are looking for
  • Make sure other sites link to yours
  • Make your site easily accessible
  • Use text that isn’t contained in graphics
  • Don’t attempt to fool Google into referencing your site as a relevant search result
  • Don’t fill your pages with lists of keywords in an attempt to conceal pages

Overall it is important to be found by search results by having an effective website. This is a site that is easy to find by those who are trying to find similar content to what is in your website, essentially what you offer perspective clients. It should then additionally prompt them to take action and not just leave your site to go to another.
